Summary
The TARDIS lands in a devastated, near-future London where the Daleks have conquered Earth after a plague and meteorite strike, forcing surviving humans into slave labour and mysterious mining operations. Joining a small resistance movement, the travellers work to uncover the Daleks’ true plan for the planet’s core, while Susan falls in love with resistance fighter David Campbell, setting up her departure from the series.
Interesting Facts
- This serial’s iconic image of a Dalek gliding past a ruined Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament became one of the most famous in the show’s history.
- It marks Carole Ann Ford’s final regular appearance as Susan, who chooses to remain on Earth with David at the story’s end, becoming the first companion departure in the series.
- The story was the basis for the second Peter Cushing Dalek feature film, “Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.” (1966).
