Summary
An archaeological expedition on the frozen planet Telos reopens the long-sealed tombs of the Cybermen. Unbeknownst to the Doctor and his companions, members of the expedition belong to the secretive Brotherhood of Logicians, who intend to revive and control the Cybermen for their own ends, a plan that backfires catastrophically once the Cybermen awaken and turn on their would-be masters.

- This serial introduces the Cyber-Controller and the parasitic Cybermats, expanding the Cybermen’s mythology considerably.
- It is the earliest complete Second Doctor story surviving in the BBC archive, recovered from a television station in Hong Kong in the early 1990s.
- The story is now noted for a scene in which the Doctor gently comforts Victoria about the loss of her father, considered one of Troughton’s finest quieter moments in the role.
- Its imagery of the Cybermen frozen in wall-mounted honeycomb tombs became one of the most iconic visuals of the classic series.
