Summary

Answering a mysterious summons, the Doctor and Rose travel five billion years into the future to New Earth, where a hospital run by cat-like Sisters of Plasmavore promises miraculous cures. Beneath the hospital’s gleaming surface lies a horrifying secret involving thousands of infected humans bred solely to test cures, a scheme further complicated when the returning Cassandra hijacks Rose’s body for one final scheme.

Interesting Facts

  • This episode marks the returning appearance of Cassandra, the “last human,” previously seen in “The End of the World,” now voiced and puppeteered again by Zoe Wanamaker.
  • Billie Piper spent much of the episode playing Cassandra possessing Rose’s body, requiring her to adopt Cassandra’s mannerisms and vocal patterns.
  • It was the first regular episode to air after David Tennant’s full debut in “The Christmas Invasion,” opening Series 2 proper.
