Summary

As negotiations between humans and Silurians collapse into violence on both sides, the Doctor races to broker a lasting peace before either species commits an act that can’t be undone. Tragedy strikes regardless, and in the chaos Rory is shot and then swallowed by the same crack in time that has haunted Amy, erased from history entirely while everyone except the Doctor forgets he ever existed.

Interesting Facts

  • Rory’s apparent death and complete erasure from time and memory shocked audiences and became a defining, if temporary, twist of the series.
  • The Silurian civilisation returns to a long hibernation at the story’s end, leaving the door open for a peaceful reunion in future centuries.
  • Nasreen and driller Tony Mack are left behind to live among the Silurians, an unusual bittersweet resolution for a Doctor Who supporting cast.
  • The crack’s ability to erase Rory so thoroughly that even photographs of him vanish became a chilling escalation of its powers.
