Summary

A simple visit to a quarantine facility on the plague planet Apalapucia goes badly wrong when Amy is separated into a different, accelerated time stream than the Doctor and Rory, aging alone for decades while they experience only minutes. By the time Rory finds her, Amy has become a hardened, embittered survivor forced to choose between saving her younger self or holding onto the only life she has left.

Interesting Facts

  • The episode is a rare “bottle” story built around just three actors and a single sparse location, emphasising character drama over spectacle.
  • Its ending, in which the older Amy is left behind rather than saved, was widely praised as one of the era’s most emotionally devastating moments.
  • This story was among the most acclaimed of the series and helped cement Karen Gillan’s reputation for dramatic range.
