Interesting Facts
- This was Eric Saward’s final script for the series as outgoing script editor, delivering an unusually dark, morbid tone built around a world that profits from death.
- Terry Molloy returns as Davros for the third time, here disguised for much of the story as the mysterious “Great Healer.”
- Director Graeme Harper, who had also directed The Caves of Androzani, brought a similarly stylish, cinematic visual approach to the production.
- The story was the final serial before the BBC’s controversial 18-month hiatus of the series was announced by controller Michael Grade.
