Summary
Medical student Martha Jones’s ordinary day at work is upended when the entire Royal Hope Hospital, along with everyone inside it, is inexplicably transported to the surface of the Moon by an alien police force known as the Judoon, who are hunting a shapeshifting fugitive hiding among the patients. As the Doctor works alongside the resourceful Martha to unmask the disguised criminal before the Judoon’s brutal search results in mass casualties, an unlikely spark of partnership begins to form between them.
Interesting Facts
- This episode introduces Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones, the Doctor’s new companion for the whole of Series 3.
- The rhino-like Judoon, a mercenary police force enforcing intergalactic law, make their first appearance in this story.
- Freema Agyeman had previously appeared in a different, unrelated role in the Series 2 episode “Army of Ghosts,” playing Martha’s cousin Adeola.
- This episode marks the first time in the revived series that an entire building is transported off-world as a central plot device.
