Interesting Facts

  • This episode features historical guest appearances by Ada Lovelace and Noor Inayat Khan, both portrayed as key allies during the Doctor’s stranded 19th-century sequence.
  • It reveals a major retcon to the Doctor’s own history, introducing the mysterious “Timeless Child” concept that would define the rest of the season’s arc.
  • Sacha Dhawan’s Master is given a fully-realized introduction here as a manipulative, theatrical adversary distinct from Michelle Gomez’s preceding Missy incarnation.
  • The episode’s visual effects for the Kasaavin were achieved using suited performers combined with digital effects work.
  • This is the first time the show explicitly acknowledges Gallifrey’s destruction, again, within the Master’s own storyline, setting up the season’s larger mythology-altering arc.
