Summary
Stranded in space without her TARDIS, the Doctor and her three new companions are picked up by two rival contestants, Angstrom and Epzo, competing in a brutal intergalactic race across the deadly planet Desolation toward a prize called the Ghost Monument, which the Doctor gradually realizes is her own lost TARDIS. Navigating hostile terrain, sentient bio-mechanical Remnants, and the competitors’ ruthless rivalry, the group reaches the finish line together, allowing the Doctor to finally reunite with her TARDIS and offer her new friends a proper look inside before deciding whether to invite them to travel with her.
Interesting Facts

- The episode ends with the redesigned title sequence and theme arrangement debuting in full for the first time in the season.
- This episode completed a loosely connected two-part season-opening story, though structured without an explicit “Part Two” title.
- Susan Lynch and Shaun Dooley’s characters, Angstrom and Epzo, were written as one-off characters but became fan favorites for their morally ambiguous rivalry-turned-alliance.
