The Doctor and Ruby enlist UNIT to investigate the recurring mystery woman played throughout the season by Susan Twist, identifying her as tech mogul Susan Triad, whose company name is an anagram of “TARDIS,” and while attempting to use a Time Window to finally see the face of Ruby’s mother on the night she was abandoned, a hooded figure and a growing vortex kill a UNIT colonel instead, revealing the season’s true villain: Sutekh, the ancient god of death, who has been clinging invisibly to the TARDIS for decades and now possesses Susan Triad.

Interesting Facts

  • “S Triad Technology” is revealed as wordplay for both “TARDIS” and a homophone of “Sutekh.”
  • Sutekh is confirmed as “the One Who Waits,” a mystery foreshadowed since 2023’s “The Giggle” and earlier in this same series’ “The Devil’s Chord.”
  • The episode recorded the lowest overnight viewing figures of the series at 2.02 million, despite a strong 93% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • It was bridged to its concluding episode by a special Tales of the TARDIS installment revisiting “Pyramids of Mars.”
