Summary

Tracing a mysterious signal to the planet Trenzalore, the Doctor discovers it to be the last, besieged Time Lord stronghold, under constant threat from a rotating cast of alien enemies drawn by a cryptic transmission asking an unanswerable question. Choosing to stand guard over the town of Christmas for centuries as its people age around him, the Doctor eventually exhausts the last of his regenerations, granted one final unexpected renewal by the Time Lords themselves just before his body gives out entirely.
